Saliva Hormone Test!
Saliva Testing has been researched and validated for biological
detection of Biomarker of hormones, drugs and anti-bodies
for human as well as for veterinarian medicine. Saliva
Testing is non invasive and painless. The greater advantage
is to be able to collect saliva at any time, day or night,
as well as having the convenience of being able to do it
at home or at work. On the other hand, blood collection
is impractical and painful to multi-sample the blood throughout
the day. Yet our body hormones changes in the morning and
at night, such as cortisol, it requires many collections
throughout the day, it is inconvenient or impossible to
do it with blood sampling. Therefore, Saliva testing is

Saliva allows for specific determination of the biological
active hormone known as “Free Hormone”.
In blood the hormones are bound to a protein, i.e. SHBG,
which makes those hormones not useable by the body. They
makeup the majority 95% of the hormones that is present
in the plasma or blood.
These “bound hormones” are biologically inactive
and they are useless. The saliva gland is a natural filter,
allowing only the unbound and free hormones to come through.
Unbound hormones carry a molecular weight around six thousand
(6K) and Bound and inactive hormones are at 50 to 100 thousand
molecular weight. They are too large to pass through the
saliva gland. Saliva samples for testing are a perfect
assessment of the “active hormones” in your
body.
Up to now, the salivary testing performed by most laboratories
was using an old technology called Radio Immune Assays
(RIA). RIA allows for “calculated” measurement
and the reliability and accuracy was often questioned.
Our new test uses a much more sensitive Luminescent
Immuno Assay (LIA) which is very sensitive. This
new generation of technology by a German Company is 1000
times more sensitive than Elisa. LIA has ultra sensitivity
as well as high specificity, particularly accurate to
unbound free hormones, using a small volume of saliva
with a direct method of measuring the chemically emitted
light from the hormones.
This New Standard of salivary diagnostic testing is now cleared
by FDA, the first of its kind, for testosterone,
estradiol, progesterone, cortisol, and is in the final
process of clearing DHEA, setting a new “Gold
Standard” in Free Hormone Testing.
This new testing procedure sets a bench mark of accuracy
and specificity. For example, LIA cortisol has a 98.7
accuracy compared to a gas chromatography, and the accuracy
of the testosterone is 99.99% LIA saliva compared to
gas chromatography. IBL has gone one step further in validating
their collection and sampling containers called Sali-Cap.
The special plastic in these containers does not interfere
with the hormones present in the saliva samples. Researchers
have shown that hormones in the saliva sample adhered to
normal plastic material, for example, this is most critical
with progesterone sticking to the side walls of the container
making saliva sample inaccurate by up to 50%.
