Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is a serious illness involving imbalances of neurotransmitters in the brain. To give you a basic understanding of what a neurotransmitter is, it can essentially be classified as a chemical messenger, traveling through the brain to send messages from one neuron nerve cell to another. Different neurotransmitters produce different functions ranging from feelings of pleasure and the ability to manage stress. An imbalance in chemical neurotransmitters leads but is not limited to anxiety, anger, impulsions, and ADHD.1
List of some Neurotransmitters and Functions
- Dopamine – pleasure, attachment/love, and altruism.
- Norepinephrine – Arousal, energy, drive, stimulation, and fight or flight.
- Serotonin – Emotional stability reduces aggression, sensory input, sleep cycle, appetite control.
- GABA – Controls anxiety, arousal, and convulsions, and keeps brain activity balanced.
Depleted serotonin has been viewed as a major cause of ADHD.2 When levels are low, symptoms may include inattention, impulsivity, hyperactivity, and fidgety behavior. The ratios of dopamine and serotonin activity is very important, keeping them balanced is key to relieving symptoms of ADHD.2
Serotonin modulates stabilizing actions in the brain, creating a balance in chemical activity, allowing those suffering from ADHD to be mentally focused and alert. With sufficient amounts of serotonin in balance with other neurotransmitters, our brain may approach intellectual circumstances and accomplish accurate conclusions successfully and with ease.
Natural extract of very young grass leaves are precursors to serotonin, has varying benefits, which are highly effective and natural, but dosage is the key! Dosage may need to be adjusted to individual needs. During early therapy, dosage may be increased given individual circumstances and beneficial effects for each individual.
